seven WAYS TO MOTIVATE DANCING FROM HOME! Go OUTside!

1. AN OPEN FIELD!

I have seen loads of people doing things outside they probably wouldn't have done before COVID.  Find some open space and run, leap, cartwheel, roll.  Of couse you need to be careful of uneven ground but an open field is like a very large stage.  Play music, film it.  Who wouldn't love a random show to see!

2. USE NATURE

Again, take precautions but use nature to help you stretch by using a tree for support.  Stand on a rock for balance.  Use the railing on a bridge as a barre.

3. lie down on a yoga mat or blanket

While you are observing the way clouds change shape and possibly mimic the movements or follow the tree branches as they sway, give yourself a good stretch.

4. DANCE WITH PROPS

Create a complicated dance out of sidewalk chalk.

Blow bubbles and use different body parts to pop them.

Use hula hoops in as many ways as you can.

5. tap dance

Find a suitable board and get out there.  Make up a dance for your Grandma.  Again, don't be shy.  Share your talent!

6. observe and mimic

Dance teachers have used nature for imagery for years.  Here is your chance to watch what moves and how it moves and try to mimic that in your own body somehow.  When you get back to the studio, you will have so many references to draw upon.

7. a photo shoot

Get out your costumes or just something you like to wear.  Having pictures of you doing something that is outside of your normal setting is an interesting surprise.

8. random acts of dancing

Sometimes I get the great opportunity to embarass my kids when we are waiting for a light to change and I move on each beep we hear.  Sometimes they get into it, sometimes people in their cars are entertained, slightly!  We stop ourselves all of the time from doing something that is natural to us.  Dance is not only for a studio or stage, it is a healthy way of moving our body.  We were made to move so let yourself have a day, with a friend, to do random acts of dancing!
